Business Sales

After investing years of blood, sweat and tears to grow your company, you may be thinking about starting the next phase of your life.  Here are some questions for you to ponder:

  • Do you have a clear reason for why you want to sell the company today, or was it just a bad day?
  • What will you do with your time when you no longer have a business to run? (I kid you not, there’s only so much golf you can play!)
  • When do you want to be fully retired? (Remember that buyers may want you to stay around for a transition period that could range from 6 months to several years.)
  • Do you know what your “number” is? By that, I mean do you know how much you would need to sell your business for to provide a sufficient cash flow to meet your needs when you’re no longer working in the business?
  • Are your competitors all being acquired?
  • Have you been getting an increasing number of letters, calls and emails from people or companies that wish to buy your business?

If the answers to these questions lead you to believe it may be time to leave your business, your first step should be to explore if selling the company to a third party is a viable option.  We prepare our Business and Value Assessment Report on a standalone basis to give you an objective look at the likely value a buyer who is under no obligation would likely pay for your business.  Then you can make an objective decision about whether today is the time to sell or if you need to make certain changes or improvements over the next twelve to eighteen months to enable you to optimize the purchase price.

Seed to Harvest recognizes that for most business owners, this is a once in a lifetime transaction, so when the time is right, we will draw on our 30 years of experience, talent, relationships and plain hard work to help you complete a transaction at the right price with the right buyer.

Seed to Harvest employs a mergers and acquisitions process that is designed to provide our clients with options so that they can choose the offer with the best combination of price and non-financial considerations. You can see that process here.
